A HOMEOWNER was left speechless when she discovered what was behind a door in her new property.
She was exploring the house when she found a very unusual feature.
Moving home can be time-consuming, from the lengthy process of trying to find the perfect place to having to schedule transferring belongings.
According to Apartments.com, the average cost of renting in the U.S. is now a whopping $1,515 which is an increase on how much it cost last year.
New York is among the most expensive cities, alongside Connecticut and California.
A TikToker who found her dream home went viral on the app when she shared an unexpected feature.
Posting under the handle @rinnnrae, she showed herself unlocking a closed door that at first glance looked like it would lead to a pantry.
However, when she opened the door there was nothing but nature.
She panned the camera to the left to show the roof of a room below.
As she turned to the right, it was revealed the property had a small outdoor space.
The TikToker described the bizarre doorway which overlooked the garden as a “fun surprise.”
Over 333,000 viewers liked the video and many took to the comment section to share their opinions.
Many said they would sit on the roof to admire the scenery if they had the door in their home, while others tried to share ways the previous owner may have used it.
“It’s for when places get snowed in so you have a place to exit if your front door is snowed in,” one person wrote.
“Those random doors in areas without excessive snow were used to move furniture into the second floor without going through the main house…,” another said.
“It’s like the Sims and they deleted a porch and forgot to take out the door [laughing],” a third joked.

“Roof access nice you can clean gutters with ease,” a fourth commented.
“Oh, it’s a New York-style rooftop patio… just mind your step, cross that roof, and set up a lawn chair and kiddie pool over on that roof… you’ll be set!” another added.
An elevated exterior door that seems useless because it doesn’t have any steps is often referred to as a mother-in-law door.
Newfoundland in Canada has many homes with the unique architectural feature.
According to 99 Percent Invisible, it has been speculated the doors were added to houses in response to legislation stating homes had to have two exists.
Another theory is that the doors could deter thieves or yield a tax break because the house seemed “unfinished.”
