Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has emphasized that the struggle for the actualization of Biafra cannot be suppressed. According to a tweet shared by his legal representative, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu firmly stated that Biafra’s realization is a non-negotiable objective.
Kanu, who has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja since his arrest in Kenya in 2021, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the Biafran people and the entire IPOB community against his unlawful incarceration. He assured everyone that their pursuit of self-determination would continue until its logical conclusion.
The Nigerian government has appealed to the Supreme Court, reaffirming its position on the Biafran leader. Kanu faces charges of treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, and publishing defamatory material, among others. Recently, various organizations and individuals, including the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, have appealed for Kanu’s release, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider it as a step towards national reconciliation.
Governor Mbah also expressed his belief that Kanu’s release would contribute to Nigeria’s healing process and demonstrate a gesture of goodwill towards the Igbo community. Additionally, the governor announced the end of the “sit-at-home” order in the state, which was initiated by the IPOB group as a protest against Kanu’s detention.
